A high-quality interior door will last for many years when properly maintained. Fortunately, interior doors require very little maintenance. Whether you choose a wooden, steel or glass door, these simple tips will help keep it in perfect condition.
Wooden interior doors are timeless and add warmth to any interior. To keep them looking their best, we recommend maintaining them once a month.
Regularly wipe the door with a dry or slightly damp microfiber cloth to remove dust and dirt.
Use lukewarm water with a small amount of mild detergent. Gently clean the door and dry it immediately afterwards with a clean cloth to prevent moisture from penetrating the wood.
Abrasive cleaners, bleach and chemical cleaning agents can damage the door's finish. Always use mild cleaning products.
Wood is a natural material that reacts to changes in humidity and temperature. Avoid excessive water and maintain a stable indoor climate.
Oak is a natural material, making proper treatment essential.
Oak doors and frames should be treated within 7 days after installation. Carefully sand the door before treating all sides, including the top and side edges. This provides optimal protection against moisture and dirt.
To preserve the natural appearance of the oak, we do not recommend using products that significantly alter its colour, such as coloured varnishes or opaque paints.
For long-lasting protection, we recommend products with a similar composition to the following finishes:
Ciranova Hardwaxoil Magic: a matte hardwax oil that provides excellent protection against daily wear and tear while preserving the natural look of the wood. It also offers excellent chemical and mechanical resistance.
Ciranova Woodlook+: an eco-friendly, water-based PU impregnating oil with an ultra-matte finish. It protects the wood without changing its natural appearance and prevents yellowing.
Steel doors are very easy to maintain.
Remove dust using a dry microfiber cloth or a soft duster.
Use a slightly damp cloth and a mild detergent to clean the steel. Dry the door thoroughly afterwards to prevent streaks.
Avoid abrasive sponges and harsh cleaning products, as these may damage the coating.
With proper care, glass doors will stay crystal clear for years.
Use a glass cleaner or a mixture of water and a small amount of vinegar. Clean the glass with a soft cloth or a squeegee to prevent streaks.
Do not use abrasive sponges or hard brushes, as they may scratch the glass.
Don't forget to maintain your door hardware. Regularly clean the hinges and handles with a soft cloth to keep your entire door looking its best.
